Pick-Up and Drop-Off:
Starting at 8:30am, students are allowed to be on the playground and there will be teachers/staff for adult supervision. If you drop your child off earlier than 8:30am - THERE WILL BE NO ADULT SUPERVISION. I will pick the children up to start our day at 8:55am. Please make sure your child is at school when the bell rings!
At the end of the day, Mrs. Hegwood will walk the kids out to the playground at 3:45pm. Students that go to Kaleidoscope, ride the bus or have after-school clubs, will also be dismissed at this time. Children MUST hi-five Mrs. Hegwood AND point out their parent before she lets them go. If someone different will be picking up your child, please notify either myself or Mrs. Hegwood as soon as possible.
Please make sure to pick up your child on time. Mrs. Hegwood will be outside with your child until 4:00pm. At that time, she will walk your child to the office to make a phone call home. Again, students are not allowed to play on the playground after 4:00pm unless they are with a parent.
A few more expectations in order to ensure that the kids are safe:
Birthdays:
Birthdays are celebrated the last 15 minutes of your child's birthday. Please let Mrs. Hegwood or myself know in advance if you would like to bring in anything special to celebrate. I know that parents/kids like to bring in sweets to share with the class, but please also consider some alternatives - an activity for the kids to do together, a game, craft, or even a healthy "treat" alternative. However, if you would still like to bring in a sweet treat for the kids, if at all possible, please do not bring in cupcakes with a lot of frosting. From previous experience, frosting and classrooms don't mix. The frosting ends up staining the carpet :) Also, please make sure to bring in something to serve the treat (napkins, paper plates, etc).
Contact Info:
Email is the best way to contact me. I am able to check email more frequently than voicemail and can respond quicker ([email protected]). Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me with any questions or concerns. I will be teaching your child all morning (reading, writing and enrichment) and Mrs. Hegwood will teach your child in the afternoon (math, science and social studies). We will both be assigning homework, as well as communicating daily, so feel free to contact either of us with any questions.
Blog:
My blog and Mrs. Hegwood’s blog will be a great asset for communication between us. Important dates, events, classroom happenings, photos, newsletters, websites, etc. will all be available on our blogs. Please make sure to check back frequently.

A few more expectations in order to ensure that the kids are safe:
- Buzz in to the front office if you need to enter the building for any reason during the school day. This helps our administration know who is around our students.
- Sign in at the front office and get a visitors badge if you need to walk about the school. This controls classroom disruptions, mistrusting stares and in general helps us all feel a little more secure.
- As I stated under the Volunteer page, please make sure to talk to the front office about a background check if you plan to be a classroom volunteer.
